Meaning: Little Dragon

Full Name: Kaida Beifong

Gender: Female

Age: 19- 21 (Depends on usage)

Voice Actress: As early teens played by Ashley Johnson, Older Teens through adult is played by Ellen Page

Personality: Kaida is a lot like her grandmother Toph, Has a big mouth and a big ego to go with it. She likes to believe she is the next greatest earth bender. Kaida may seem like the bad ass rude type once you first meet her but she has a kind side and has great respect and love for her family even those she feels don't deserve it however she won't show them respect right away for obvious reasons that will be explained later.

Kaida is also known to be really protective of her friends and family and will fight to any lengths to protect them. She likes people to believe that she's brave and isn't afraid of anything but really she has a lot of emotional issues and is easy to hurt if you know which buttons to push. She believes that she must be like her mother and grandmother in order to survive out in the world.

History: Kaida's life was well in a word different. Before Kaida or her brothers we're born her mother lived in Republic city and was with a young man by the name of Tenzin. The two we're close, very close but they're relationship didn't last and upon they're last night they did some things they might have regretted which left Lin with a few implications that she had no idea how to take care of. When she started to show she allowed someone to take her place for a short time and used an excuse that she needed a break away from the stress of work and surprisingly no one disagreed with her, they knew she worked hard and didn't stop her when she left.

She ended up in her sister's city of Zaofu and though the two didn't get along she stayed long enough. She spent a good year or two there and gave birth to three children. Tauri, Erion and Kaida. She ended up spending those two years raising them but had a duty to keep to her city, She entrusted her sister to look after her children when she went back to Republic city apparently one of the hardest things she did was not look back as she left her children with her sister. 

Needless to say they didn't grow up bad or with any complaints at least most of them didn't, Tauri and Erion grew up as rather respectful kids. Tauri taking somewhat after Lin and Erion taking after they're grandfather Aang. Kaida on the other hand was a spitting image of Toph and Su into one which worried Suyin to a point. At the age of six Kaida showed potential as a rather impressive earth bender though she mainly used it to play pratical jokes on her younger cousins and siblings. While Tauri and Erion showed more talent in air bending and water bending much to everyone's surprise, it was a bit difficult for them to really teach Erion and Tauri anything but they much like they're grandparents had a fun time learning as they progressed.

As they got a little older they kinda grew apart, Tauri and Erion stayed close but Kaida just kinda drifted off into her own little world of mischief and mayhem. It came to a point where Suyin became worried of what the future held for the little girl, Mischief and bad luck seemed to follow Kaida constantly. When she was eight she had decided to explore a little out of Zaofu, her brothers worried she might get hurt decided to follow and a part of Kaida was glad they had otherwise she might not even be around today, they had asked her and sometimes even begged her not to go off because there we're still parts of the area that the earth benders hadn't worked on nor explored far enough to watch for danger.

Of course Kaida was never one to listen and in that went on her way. She was still learning about her own earth bending so she never really felt the ground to be unstable beneath her. Much like weak ice eventually it couldn't handle the weight and it collapsed under her. It turned out to be an underwater cavern beneath the earth and thus Kaida fell into the water, another problem being Kaida couldn't swim so naturally she panicked. Tauri had gotten Erion to run back for they're aunt while he did his best to keep her calm until she got there. It didn't do much good when Kaida started to black out from the panic thus Tauri ended up using his air bending to form a small air bubble hoping he could hold it long enough till they're aunt arrived. 

It broke about a moment or two before Su got there and by that time Kaida had almost drowned. Su had gotten her back home and had gotten a medic to look her over, she would be okay at least physically, nobody would ever assume that it would have much affect on her but they we're wrong. As time went on Suyin began to notice that Kaida would end up having slight panic attacks when it came to doing even the simplest thing like taking a bath and would tense up every time they'd walk by the pond outside her own home. Another thing for Suyin to worry about but it wasn't too bad cause Kaida did kinda heal up for the most part it was then when she really drifted away from her brothers.

By the age of ten Kaida was on her own most of the time and Suyin had another little girl wandering around. A non bender Opal, that surprisingly Kaida had taken a rather protective instinct around her which gave Su a bit of hope that maybe she wouldn't end up changing later or at least she hoped. She wished Kaida had a friend though someone that could at least help her get around better she didn't realize those hopes would change her more then ever. Kaida was always wandering off on her own into the city but she was safe for the most part and there was rarely any danger to worry about, it was then she ended up meeting another little girl. That girl's name was Kuvira, upon meeting her Kaida had noticed that she seemed a bit frail and a tad weak but not in a sense of fighting more due to the fact she looked like she hadn't ate in a while. 

They had a bit of a spat at first until Kaida found out why this girl was bitter, her own family had left her to die, left her alone. It made Kaida think of how her own mother abandoned her and her brothers but unlike her brothers she was more affected by it. Where they kinda understood Kaida found it hard too, she understood where Kuvira was coming from and even explained to her that she partly knew how she felt. In doing so Kaida offered to help her and brought her back home to her aunt explaining to her what she knew. Of course Suyin being as she was could never turn a child away and offered to take her in, at first Kuvira wasn't interested taking it for pity but with a bit of talking she reluctantly agreed. Though through this Kaida had made herself a friend, a real friend and the  two became close over time. 

As the years went on things became rather interesting around Zaofu. At the age of 15 Kaida and Kuvira we're somewhat known around whether it was for causing trouble or otherwise. Kaida tend to just like playing tricks on people and on occasion stole a little food here and there but it was never anything major, though most of the time her antics got her into quite a bit of trouble. Kuvira wasn't really causing trouble but was always there when it happened but was more there to defend Kaida rather then get in trouble with her. The two became very close friends and in doing so it kinda opened doors for both side. Where Kuvira finally felt like she had real family and Kaida who seemed to be growing a bit of a bond with her cousins and brothers again. Everything seemed to be doing a lot better but things only kinda went down hill when Bataar Jr. starting showing more then just a family interest in Kuvira.

Kaida wasn't really known to be a jealous type but when it came to others hanging with her friend she grew a little irritated by others, no one but her knew why though. Due to the day and age she lived in she wasn't allowed to feel like this for her friend especially knowing she was a girl it would only make things awkward and probably troublesome down the road. So Kaida kept this secret to herself and told no one how she felt about Kuvira, and how heart broken she was when a few weeks down the road her best friend was formally dating her cousin. It hurt her in more ways then she'd ever imagine to see her best friend with Bataar Jr. Sadly through that they kinda drifted, Kuvira was either spending time with Bataar Jr. or helping her aunt.

Around the age of 17 the two constantly fought, they got along at times but argued more then anything and it was because of her cousin that this happened. But nothing could ever prepare her for what was about to happen next, one night a lot of the folks in Zaofu came to Suyin claiming Kaida to be stealing personal items of theirs. Of course she denied it she had no reason to steal from those people not anything of value but no one really believed her due to the trouble she caused growing up. The only ones who actually believed her was Opal and Kuvira, It wasn't that Suyin didn't believe her it was the fact that evidence was kinda laid out in front of her. Upon the guards being told to check her room they found most of the stolen items and Kaida was labeled to be un-trusted in Zaofu as well as a thief. 

The people wanted her out, gone and tossed out of Zaofu, even that disgusting man Aiwei refused to believe her or defend her in his case it was easy enough to get rid of her by lying and Su believed everything Aiwei told him. Needless to say again the only two people who believed her was Opal and Kuvira and sadly with a heavy heart Suyin had no choice but to make Kaida leave for she couldn't put her to jail nor could she trust her to stay in one place, Kaida having no real place to go was offered by they're grandmother Toph to take Kaida with her while going on her own journey.

Kaida didn't have a choice but to take her up on the offer, as she packed her brothers came to her and asked her if she did it. They said they'd believe her if she said but Kaida didn't want to hear it. If they we're going to believe her they would have when she claimed it in the first place. They tried to apologize but she wouldn't hear it and with that they left. Suyin tried to explain that she was just doing what was best she didn't want Kaida to go but she didn't have a choice, once again Kaida didn't believe her words nor did she want to hear it as she grabbed her bag. She said her goodbyes to Kuvira and Opal and left, Had she stayed she would have saw her mother again and even met the avatar but it didn't matter to her as far as she was concerned trusting people was a hazard.

Whether they we're family or friends trusting people with your emotions and loyalty was a major hazard to her and she wasn't ever going to risk that again. When she was twenty she had overheard many things from Kuvira becoming a tyrant to her getting engaged to Bataar Jr. and sadly she didn't know which one bothered her more. She spent sometime in the swamp but ended up leaving and just started her own journey she had ended up crossing paths later on with Korra after hearing about her from Toph they had asked for her help seeing as they heard some information about her being close to Kuvira. 

Kaida denied helping them, she denied wanting to get involved with her family again. Her family we're nothing but traitors to her not even when she saw Opal again did she feel the need to help. She felt slightly bad for denying her cousin but what good would it do for her when she needed her family they weren't there. When she needed her mother where was she, in Republic city, when she needed her brothers where we're they. They took the side of Zaofu over they're own sister. Why would she help them take out one of the only people who we're actually believing her when she needed them most. With a few hurt words from her cousin Opal, Kaida's guilt made her cave and she ended up following them to Republic City. 

She ended up finding out her aunt and cousins we're all locked up including her brothers and Kuvira was the one to do it all. Strangely enough she didn't feel as much as she should have, if anything Kaida felt it to be a bit ironic that they ended up in a place where her people wanted her. Of course upon arriving to Republic city there was a bit of an awkward moment between her and her mother. She knew her mother wasn't exactly an affectionate type even now and Kaida just didn't know what to say. Of course when words did come out they weren't exactly kind, Kaida allowed herself to let her anger lash out at her mother and explained her uncaring attitude towards the fact the rest of her family we're prisoners and in her eyes they deserved it. However what she didn't expect was to be literally slapped by Opal who had heard most of the conversation. 

She hated making Opal cry and she knew she hurt her badly upon saying such hurtful words even if most of them if not all of them weren't even directed at her. She ended up sitting alone outside until her mother joined her. Lin explained that she did regret leaving her there but she thought it would be better and easier on all of them but there wasn't a day that goes by that she regretted her decisions but she could never find it in herself to face that problem no matter how badly she wanted too. Though she did have somewhat of a better understanding she refused to fight Kuvira, in her eyes Kuvira was still her friend even after what she did. She refused to help rescuing her family too which probably made things worse. In the long run Kaida did eventually once again get ridden by her guilt and followed them along the way meeting they're mother who had explained that they we're already there and by the time she had caught up she had witnessed her cousin nearly getting hit with that spiritual canon.

Kuvira didn't seem like the same girl she remembered, She had changed and she could see it not only in her but in Bataar Jr. as well. This was not the same friend she knew not the same person she had grown up with either, this person looked past her not at her. She didn't know this woman it looked like Kuvira, sounded like her but it wasn't her. When everyone had gotten away she had her brothers and cousins and aunt and uncle thanking her and apologizing to her but she still didn't want to hear it, in the long run they still didn't deserve her forgiveness at least in her eyes they didn't. She denied once again in helping them with Kuvira saying that it was they're fight and she wouldn't do it. 

Of course like always watching you're family fight from a distance and losing was terrifying during all the confusion she wasn't even sure if her family knew at least from her father's side. She didn't know if Tenzin noticed the three of them or if he noticed how much some resembled his own kids. The fight was just too distracting, and sadly Kaida was in that fight she had to fight against someone she cared about, someone she grew up with and someone she once trusted. She helped them enough for them to get inside but from that point on she couldn't do much but watch as the machine tore itself apart as it exploded. She even had to watch her own friend run away as the avatar went after her. She didn't know for a long time if either of them survived the outcome and like everyone else she was worried but not for Korra, she would never admit it but Korra, she didn't know Korra so she didn't care but at the same time she didn't want this place to change either.

With agonizing moments just slipping slowly, the beam of light soon gave way too figures one looming over the other. She felt relief when seeing Kuvira was all right injured but alive. Sadly she knew what was going to happen once Kuvira told her men to stand down she was arrested and she got one last glance as her friend looked over at her broken but she recognized this Kuvira. This one was her friend. She promised Kuvira she'd visit her where every they planned to put her, she would go to see her. A few days after the incident was a wedding and Kaida was surprisingly invited along with her family and she hated wearing a dress, it annoyed her but she had too. It was actually the only reason she agreed was because her mother agreed to finally come out to Tenzin about her and her brothers. It was a big step for her mother and she had to be there for them for a change.

Things we're surprisingly well and of course Tenzin was shocked they all we're and things even got more confusing when her new step siblings grew curious of her and just like with Opal she grew a protective attachment towards them all. Of course during all this time Kaida did keep her promise once she found out where Kuvira was being kept she spent time visiting her friend and just connecting with her like old times. She hoped Kuvira's time would be reduced so that one day they could hang out like they use too.
